A waiting period where all you think about is taking long road-trips with your friends. Why is there a waiting period, you ask? That’s a good question that we will try to answer below.

Important Note

The driving license is one of the most important documents you need to carry at all times. The driving license is issued by the Regional Transport Office (RTO). And, all states have a set guidelines on the issuing of license. One cannot drive without a valid driver’s license, it is a mandatory document. Penalty for not having a valid driver’s license if you are caught, are high. Please before you get behind the wheel, make sure you have a valid driver’s license.

How Long Does It Take To Get a Driving License?

Still waiting for your driving license to show up at your home? Have absolutely no idea when or how it’ll get there? Fret not. We will help you keep a track of your driving licence status and keep you updated on it.

It is indeed difficult to know when your license will show up. In certain cases, you are not even informed of an estimated date of arrival!

As you are aware, all applicants must undergo a driving test before being granted a license. Sometimes, applicants aren’t even informed if they passed or failed the test at the Regional Transport Office (RTO). Further, things like bank holidays and just paper-work delays can push the delivery date of your driving license further in the future.

If you have applied for a new driving license, for the first-time, it should generally take about 30 working days for the license to reach you. This is also applicable if you apply for a duplicate driving license. Sometimes, a duplicate driving license maybe issued sooner.

Generally, when it comes to renewal of driver’s license, it is done on the same day. However, due to various reasons, renewal driving licenses too can take some time to show up at your doorstep.

However, 30 working days can be extended further if there are delays. Sometimes, local authorities face a shortage of plastic cards to print driving licenses on! Trust us, that’s our first-hand experience! Sometimes, the post offices are delaying it, for reasons best known to them! And the calendar keeps going forward without you having a clue about your driving licence status!

Finding Out Your Driving Licence Status

The waiting period is frustrating and beyond annoying. Most people keep returning to their district RTO office to inquire about driving licence status. One can do this, but it’s a cumbersome process.

Finding out the status of your driving license has always been a logistical problem. Mainly because there are so many signatories and parties involved, that there is sometimes a lack of coordination between them.

Let’s look at better way of finding out the status of your driving license! Who wants to keep visiting the RTO offices, eh? We don’t have the time or the patience anymore, do we? We are in an online-24×7 world. Therefore, the best way to check the status of your driving license is also on the internet! Who would have thought even 10 years ago that this would have been possible one day?

But now that we are here, let’s explore it a little further:

  • All you have to do to check the status of your driving license is to visit the website called Parivahan. This website is setup by the central government to help you track the status of your license. Parivahan also does various other things: You can upload application documents, book appointments at the RTO office. You can even modify the application submitted by you, cancel your appointment, etc.
  • All you need to do on the website is click on ‘Apply Online’ and select ‘Application Status’.
  • Once the page opens, it’ll ask you to enter your application number and your date of birth. The application number would be on the receipt handed to you when you visited the RTO office.
  • After you enter the correct details, it will furnish the current status of your application. It works like how you would expect Flipkart or Amazon to show the details for your order! It’s magical!
  • Please note that your application number won’t be trackable instantly. We recommend giving it at least 5-6 working days before you try checking for your application status.
